Yamgan (Dari:یمگان) is one of the 29districts ofBadakhshan Province in easternAfghanistan. It was created in 2005 from part of theBaharak District and is home to approximately29,096 residents,[1] mostlyIsmailis.
During theAfghan Civil War the area was underTaliban influence from 2015 to 2019; in September of that yearAfghan National Security Forces declared they had full control of the district.[2] In late March 2020 the district was fully captured by the Taliban.[3]
Last year, Afghan security forces had cleared the district from the presence of the insurgents after four years.
