Yameshwar orJameshwar Temple is a very old temple dedicated toShiva being worshiped byYama. It is situated inBhubaneswar,Odisha,India, nearBharati Matha, in Jameshwar Patna.[1]
The mainVimana is inRekha Deula style,Jaga mohan is inPidha Deula style and there is a detachedmandapa.[2] Many portions of the temple have been damaged by natural calamities as the temple is built bysandstone. The outer Prakara is built bylaterite. The icons around the temple include many motifs like Dikpalas, Amarous couple, Nayikas, Vidalas, Erotics, elephant procession etc....[2] The innerGarbhagriha housesShivalinga within a circularyonipitha.[2] The temple was built in the 13th-14th century[1] during theEastern Ganga dynasty.[2]
TheJiuntia or Puajiutia festival which is also called Dwitvahana osha falling inAshwin is very popular in this temple, others beingShivaratri andKartik Purnima. All Mondays and Sankramana days are important in this temple. People who visit this temple duringBharani nakshatra are said to be free from all miseries.
