Ya'akov Shamai (Hebrew:יעקב שמאי; 22 May 1940 - 4 October 2016) was an Israeli farmer and politician.
Shamai was born inJerusalem during theMandate era. After high school, he didnational service in theIDF between 1958 and 1961, before working in agriculture.[citation needed]
He headed the Likud faction in theHistadrut trade union, and was on the Likud list for the1984 Knesset elections. Although he failed to win a seat,[citation needed] he entered the Knesset on 5 February 1985 as a replacement for the deceasedYitzhak Seiger. He was re-elected in1988 and1992,[1] before losing his seat in the1996 elections.[citation needed] Shammai died on 4 October 2016.[2]
His daughter, Yifat, is married to Likud MKYariv Levin.
