Xu Xueqiang (Chinese:许学强; born November 1962) is ageneral (shangjiang) of thePeople's Liberation Army (PLA), serving as head of theEquipment Development Department of theCentral Military Commission since October 2022. He was the president ofPLA National Defence University from 2021 to 2022 and previously served as commander ofNorthern Theater Command Air Force and before that, chief of staff ofNanjing Military Region Air Force.
Xu was born inYiyang, Hunan province in November 1962. He served inPLA Air Force Shanghai Base [zh] before being appointed as chief of staff ofNanjing Military Region Air Force in December 2013. In 2016, he was appointed chief of staff of the newly foundedEastern Theater Command Air Force, a position he held until August 2017, when he was transferred toNorthern Theater Command Air Force and appointed commander. In August 2021, he was appointed president ofPLA National Defence University, succeedingZheng He.[1][2]
He was promoted to the rank ofmajor general (shaojiang) in 2013,lieutenant general (zhongjiang) in June 2019 andgeneral (shangjiang) in September 2021.[3][4]
