Xi Aurigae,Latinized from ξ Aurigae, is theBayer designation for a single,[9] white-huedstar in the northernconstellation ofAuriga. This star was once considered part of the constellation ofCamelopardalis and held theFlamsteed designation32 Camelopardalis.[10] It is visible to the naked eye with anapparent visual magnitude of +5.0.[2] The measured annualparallax shift of this star is13.37 ± 0.17mas,[1] which corresponds to a physical distance of 244light-years (75parsecs) with a 3 light-yearmargin of error. At that distance, the visual magnitude of the star is diminished by anextinction of 0.108 due tointerstellar dust.[11]
This is anA-type main sequence star with astellar classification of A2 Va.[3] Although it was one of the first stars to be cataloged as aLambda Boötis star, Murphy et al. (2015) don't consider it to be a member of this population.[3] The star has nearly twice[6] themass of the Sun and about 1.1[7] times theSun's radius. It is an estimated 174[6] million years old and is spinning with aprojected rotational velocity of 62 km/s.[6] Xi Aurigae is radiating 49.5[5] times theSun's luminosity from itsphotosphere at aneffective temperature of around 9,152 K.[6]
