Xavier Duursma (born 7 July 2000) is a professionalAustralian rules footballer who plays for theEssendon Football Club in theAustralian Football League (AFL). He was drafted byPort Adelaide with the 18th pick in the2018 AFL draft.[1]
Duursma made his AFL debut in Port Adelaide's win overMelbourne in the opening round of the2019 AFL season.[2] He scored a goal on debut. In Round 6, Duursma earned the Rising Star nomination, following Port's 16 point win overNorth Melbourne.[3] He quickly became well known for his bow and arrow goal celebration.[4]
Following the conclusion of the2020 AFL season, which concluded with a preliminary final loss toRichmond, Duursma inherited the number seven guernsey from retired veteranBrad Ebert.[5]
Duursma was traded from Port Adelaide toEssendon in a rare player-for-player swap withBrandon Zerk-Thatcher at the end of the2023 AFL season.[6]
Duursma is the nephew of formerSydney,Brisbane andMelbourne playerJamie Duursma.[1] His sisterYasmin has played forPort Adelaide andCarlton in theAFLW, while his brotherZane was drafted toNorth Melbourne in the2023 AFL draft.
He was educated atFoster Secondary College, where he was school captain in 2018.[7] He played junior football forFoster Tigers in theAlberton Football League.
