AWurstbrot is a slice ofbread spread with slices oflunch meat orsausage. Additionally, the bread may bebuttered to taste. It is a very simple and typicalGerman type ofsandwich, generally home-made, eaten cold, and popular as a snack,packed lunch as well as forbreakfast orsupper.[1]
If the sausage is put on abread roll, it is calledWurstbrötchen in northern,Wurstsemmel in southern Germany. It is commonly sold at bakeries, at the butcher's shop or snack shops and sometimes garnished with sliced pickles, lettuce, tomato orTartar sauce.
Very similar ingredients but with a thick slice of a finely minced baked sausage calledLeberkäse on a roll is calledLeberkäsbrötchen,Leberkäswecken orLeberkässemmel. It is usually served hot and sold at snack shops, at the butcher and often at public fairs.Mustard orketchup may be added to taste, while butter is usually left out.[citation needed]
