Wormhout (French pronunciation:[wɔʁmut]ⓘ; before 1975:Wormhoudt;West Flemish:Wormout) is acommune in theNorddepartment in northernFrance.[3] Several people in Wormhout still speakWest Flemish, a local dialect ofDutch and the traditional language of the region, whileFrench-speakers form a majority, due to centuries of French political and cultural influence.
The town's name is ofGermanic origin, meaning "Wormwood."[4]
