Thewishbone-C is the colloquial name for a distinctive form of theletter C used primarily as a logo by sports teams.[1] It has been described as "a standard letter 'C' that is pinched off in the middle to make it look like a sidewayswishbone."[2]

The wishbone-C was used as early as 1898 by theUniversity of Chicagofootball team.[1] The wishbone-C was adopted by theCincinnati Reds ofMajor League Baseball as early as 1905, and they have worn ontheir uniforms it in some form or fashion every season since 1909.[1] TheChicago Bears of theNational Football League have utilized the wishbone-C astheir logo on their helmets since 1962.[1]

TheChicago Cardinals, ancestors of theArizona Cardinals, also used a wishbone-C logo.[1] The wishbone-C has also been used by theChicago Cubs,[3]Cleveland Indians, and in part of the logo of theMinnesota Twins.[1] In theNegro Leagues, the wishbone-C was worn by theKansas City Monarchs and theCincinnati Tigers.[1] It was also used by theKansas City Packers of theFederal League.
