William Harold Roberts (born August 5, 1962) is an American former professionalfootball player who was anoffensive lineman for 13 seasons in theNational Football League (NFL) for theNew York Giants,New England Patriots andNew York Jets. He playedcollege football for theOhio State Buckeyes.
Roberts was born inMiami, Florida, and attendedMiami Carol City Senior High School.[1] He playedcollegiately atOhio State University,[2] where, as a senior, he was named a second-team All-American by bothFootball News andGannett News Service (GNS).[3][4]
Roberts was selected in the first round of the1984 NFL draft (27th overall) by theNew York Giants.[5][6] After appearing in 8 games atoffensive tackle for the Giants in his rookie year, Roberts missed the entire1985 season due to injury before establishing himself as a regular starter for the Giants in 1987. He moved to theguard position in 1989.
Roberts was selected to thePro Bowl after the1990 season, and played in 3Super Bowls during his career, winningSuper Bowl XXI andXXV with the New York Giants, and appearing inSuper Bowl XXXI with theNew England Patriots. Roberts retired after the 1997 season after a 13-year NFL career,[7] having played in 195 games, with 154 as a starter.[1]
