William Rémy (born 4 April 1991) is a French professionalfootballer who plays as acentre-back. He is a formerFrench youth international, having starred for theunder-17,under-18, andunder-19 teams.
Born inCourbevoie, Rémy joinedPas-de-Calais-based clubLens in 2004. He made his professional football debut on 13 October 2008 in aLigue 2 match againstGuingamp coming on as a substitute playing 8 minutes.[1][2] Rémy also appeared in his club's upset loss toChampionnat de France amateur 2 side and lesser rivalsArras Football in theCoupe de France coming on as a substitute in the 81st minute and playing the entireextra time session before watching his club bow out 4–2 on penalties.[3]
In August 2011 Rémy had a trial atNewcastle United along withDarnel Situ. Both Remy and Situ scored in their debut for the reserves in a 5–0 victory over Gateshead.[4][5]
After four years with Lens, Rémy moved to the Ligue 2 sideDijon FCO on a three-year contract.
In January 2018, he joined Polish clubLegia Warsaw fromMontpellier HSC on a3+1⁄2-year deal.[6] On 18 December 2020, his contract with Legia was terminated.[7]
On 25 December 2021, Rémy agreed to joinVirton in Belgium.[8]
On 7 February 2024, he returned to Poland to sign withI liga sideZagłębie Sosnowiec until the end of the season, with an option for another year.[9] After Zagłębie's last-place finish and relegation, Rémy left the club at the end of June 2024.[10]
Rémy was a France youth international. He was a part of theFrance U-17 squad that finished runners-up at the2008 UEFA European Under-17 Championship. In a group stage match againstSpain, he scored on a volley off a corner kick.[11] The goal gave France a 3–2 lead, though Spain would later score and the match would end in a draw.
