William Morris Davis (August 16, 1815 – August 5, 1891), was anabolitionist, author and aRepublican member of theU.S. House of Representatives fromPennsylvania. Among his friends were the New York sculptorHenry Kirke Brown, and the lock inventorLinus Yale.[1]
William Morris Davis was born inKeene, New York. He moved toPennsylvania and became a sugar refiner inPhiladelphia. Davis was elected as a Republican to theThirty-seventh Congress. He was elected as a member to theAmerican Philosophical Society in 1883.[2]
He died in Keene Valley in 1891. Interment in FriendsFair Hill Burial Ground inGermantown, Philadelphia.
His extended family included ReverendPhebe Ann Coffin Hanaford,Abby Hopper Gibbons,Martha Coffin Wright,John Pelham andEdward Morris Davis.[3]
