William Dagger (born 21 February 1999)[2] is an English professionalrugby league footballer who playsfullback, wing, centre, stand-off, scrum-half forYork Knights in theRFL Championship.
He has previously played for theWarrington Wolves,Hull Kingston Rovers andWakefield Trinity in theSuper League. Dagger has spent time on loan fromHull KR at theYork City Knights inLeague 1, and at theLeigh Centurions andFeatherstone Rovers in theChampionship.
Dagger has a son withGeorgie Dagger.They married in November 2024.
Dagger was born inPontefract,West Yorkshire, England.[2]
In 2017, he made his début for theWarrington Wolves against theCastleford Tigers in a 16-36Super League defeat.[3]
In October 2017, Dagger signed a three-year contract to play forHull Kingston Rovers in theSuper League.[4]
On 15 February 2018, he made his Hull Kingston RoversSuper League bow, in a 23-4 victory over theCatalans Dragons.[5]
Dagger made a total of five appearances for Hull KR in the2021 Super League season including the club's 28-10 semi-final defeat against Catalans Dragons.[6][7][8]
Dagger occasionally featured for theYork City Knights in 2018, as part of Hull Kingston Roversdual registration partnership with the club.[9]
It was revealed on 26 July 2018, that Dagger would spend the remainder of the 2018rugby league season at the Leigh Centurions, on a loan basis from his parent-club Hull Kingston Rovers.[10]
Dagger was followed to the Leigh Centurions by two of his current Hull Kingston Rovers teammates inJosh Johnson andJordan Walne as part of the same loan deal.[10]
Dagger made his Leigh Centurions début against theSheffield Eagles on 29 July 2018, in a 34-10 triumph in theChampionship league competition.[11]
Dagger started the game in thefullback position and he recorded a try on his first appearance for the Leigh Centurions.[11]
On 8 June 2021, it was reported that he had signed forFeatherstone in theRFL Championship on loan.[12]
In March 2023, Dagger joined Wakefield Trinity and made his club debut in round 7 of the 2023 Super League season againstSt. Helens which ended in a 38-0 loss.[13]In round 18 of the 2023 Super League season, Dagger kicked a drop goal in golden point extra-time which gave Wakefield Trinity a 27-26 upset victory overWigan.[14]Dagger played 16 matches for Wakefield Trinity in theSuper League XXVIII season as the club finished bottom of the table and were relegated to theRFL Championship which ended their 24-year stay in the top flight.[15]
On 12 October 2023 it was reported that he had returned to play forYork Knights on a permanent three-year deal.[16]
