It's probably appropriate that thePortal:Syria is created, as the current portalPortal:Asia is too wide in scope. This is not my area of expertise and adding here for discussion, or to inspire potential creation by interested editors.Rangasyd (talk)10:00, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If theongoing rebel offensives against the Assad's government result in his overthrow and the end of the regime (which currently seems as a likely outcome), a new article should be created – encompassing the period of theBa'athist rule over Syria; it should be modeled onBa'athist Iraq. —Sundostundmppria(talk /contribs)14:32, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It appears the new transitional government is using the coat of arms with the hawk facing its right as opposed to the left, also it has the black lines along the wings (not just golden contrast), based on the latest documentation published on the official government-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).[1][2][3][4]Moester101 (talk)22:42, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, hope y'all are doing well. I recently found out the pageDraft:Next Syrian presidential election, which was originally created by another editor, then sent to draftspace. I later expanded the article to include background and the info that the new government has said about the elections so far. Obviously, there isn't much information yet on this issue, but the topic is certainly notable in light of recent events. I submitted the draft for submission, butJohannes rejected it on the grounds of original research. I don't completely agree, as all my additions are factual statements about what different people have said, and they are sourced by news articles. However, I also acknowledge that there is still much uncertainty on this issue as of right now, so I understand some hesitancy in publishing the article. I have considered that maybe the "presidential" in the title may pose an issue? The transitional government hasn't confirmed yet the new system of government after all. I would also strongly prefer to have the page name opened, at least as a redirect to somewhere else. What are your thoughts and comments on this? Thanks!

Obviously, there isn't much information yet on this issue– This is why Wikipedia should not (yet) have an article on it. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, i.e., it has articles on subjects that are believed to be established knowledge. There are no secondary sources. Nobody knows for certain at this point whether or not elections will be held.

WikiProject Syria, theDeveloping Countries WikiContest will be returning for a second year, andsign-ups are now open! The contest will run from 1 July to 30 September, and the objective remains the same: improve as many articles relating to developing countries as you can to help fightsystemic bias on Wikipedia.
In other news, we have a new face on the coordinator team this year: last year's sixth-place finisher,Arconning (talk ·contribs)! The coordinators would like to extend a sincere thanks toIxtal (talk ·contribs), who is leaving the team, without whom the contest would not exist. After feedback from contestants last year, the scoring rules are undergoing some modifications; the new rules and a summary of the changes made will be posted to thecontest talk page shortly.
If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page, use the{{@DCWC coordinators}} template, or contact one of the coordinators:Arconning (talk ·contribs),sawyer777 (talk ·contribs), orTechnoSquirrel69 (talk ·contribs).(To unsubscribe from these updates, remove this talk page fromthis list.) Hiya, I've got a quick question on the internal borders used for Syira. Lots of the boundaries seem roughly correct, but I've noticed a difference that might be an error. In the first map theRif Dimashq Governorate in the south seems to have its north border withHoms Governorate at 45 degrees from northwest to southeast, but in the second map it's more of an east-west border. This August 2022 map from the UN seems to suggest the east-west border is correct, although a previous UN map (available in thumbnailhere) shows a northeast-southwest divide. Is there an error here?
