PSLV "heatshield"

[edit]

File:Full size heat shield of PSLV 7850.JPG is described as theheat shield#Spacecraft of the PSLV launcher, on its own description and on several articles that use it. Surely launchers don't have heat shields, and this is the recoveredpayload fairing, which isn't the same thing at all. --Finlay McWalter··–·Talk08:18, 14 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

ISRO often uses the terms heat shield and payload fairing interchangeably. HAL however exclusively designates the upper most stage of PSLV as 'heat shield' instead of 'payload fairing'[1]. This photo (as you may have noticed in the description of the image) shows the heat shield model kept in HAL Museum (Heritage Centre and Aerospace Museum, Bengaluru, Karnataka) and has PSLV HEAT SHIELD painted on it (the other image onPSLV-C39 page). The plaque below the model reads "FULL SIZE HEAT SHIELD OF PSLV (Chamber For Keeping Satellite)"[2]
I could even find a description of heat shield on ISRO's official page where the sentence reads and I quote, 'A standard heat shield/payload fairing is typically a cone-cylinder combination structure (due to aerodynamic considerations) enclosing the space craft/satellite, generally the top most structure in launch vehicle.'[3]
Also, the name seems to have been used in one of the research papers dedicated to development of payload fairings for PSLV at VSSC.[4]
As per my opinion, nothing can really be done about it except maybe redirecting topayload fairing in pages which useheat shield.

P.S. Sorry for the extremely unrelated BG in the shared YT link. It is kind of funny actually if you suddenly open the link and have full volume.Manav2311 (talk)17:33, 20 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Trident (spacecraft)

[edit]

Mission probably cancelled in c. 2021 in favor ofDAVINCI andVERITAS, but this was never officially announced. However, the article is extremely out of date now, including a proposed launch date now past. –LaundryPizza03 (d)06:14, 26 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I am looking for a volunteer to co-nominate the next astronaut article atFAC, which will beGus Grissom. Gus was one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts. He died in theApollo 1 fire.Hawkeye7(discuss)23:07, 26 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Input on Leik Myrabo

[edit]

I recently ran across the pageLeik Myrabo which was nominated byUser:Very_Polite_Person as a physics and astronomygood article in September 2025. From a little analysis it is very unclear whether he passesWP:NPROF, there is a lot ofWP:Peacock plus the page incorrectly stated that he used to be a professor atRPI (he was an associate prof from what I can find). Maybe he passesWP:GNG as a well known name in space propulsion, or perhaps this is a promo page that belongs at AfD. I would appreciate opinions.Ldm1954 (talk)14:52, 4 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

After reviewing the article I have removed{{WikiProject Spaceflight}} from the article's Talk page header. (— 𝐬𝐝𝐒𝐝𝐬 — -talk)21:58, 7 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
