Reliable sources

[edit]

I noticed thatWikipedia:WikiProject Japan doesn't have a list of reliable sources likeWikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Sources,Wikipedia:WikiProject Anime and manga/Online reliable sources, andWikipedia:WikiProject Korea/Reliable sources. To keep our references consistent and in standard, I'm proposing a list of reliable sources for Japan-related articles atWikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard#Reliable sources for Japanese-related articles. If you can, feel free to share your input!lullabying (talk)20:52, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

RfC on election/referendum naming format

[edit]

This RfC on moving the year from the end to the start of article titles (e.g.South African general election, 2019 to2019 South African general election) has been reopened for further comment, including on whether a bot could be used move the articles if it closed in favour of the change:Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (government and legislation)#Proposed change to election/referendum naming format. Geisha (yet again)

[edit]

Let me repeat myself:

Are you interested in geisha? If you're mumbling "No, not particularly", me neither, and your level-headed monitoring of the article Geisha might be beneficial. It seems that particular (foreign-born) geisha have their Wikipedia-editing partisans, and that some of the latter have been having conniption fits. (See the article's talk page, which might benefit from some judicious deletions.) -- Hoary (talk) 02:18, 21 May 2018 (UTC)

Nihonjoe,Snufkin23 andMarchjuly have greatly improved the talk page since then (thank youse!), but the article remains a battlefield. Thevery first edit of one UID is "Edited out the misinformation about Sayuki (Fiona Graham) and added Kimicho to the foreigner geisha list, as should be", in which "editing out misinformation about" seems to mean "dumping on". A lot of the sourcing of the dump looks most dubious, a charge that "should be noted" seems to be entirely irrelevant to geisha-dom, and anyway I still don't understand how the tiny number of non-Japanese geisha merit such a degree of attention.

I simply lack the time or interest in geisha needed to investigate and police. Do we not have anyone with some time and an academic or level-headed interest in geisha? --Hoary (talk)06:06, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This reminds me of a similar mess that I was trying to sort out atTalk:Hokushin Ittō-ryū last year. It does seem that many foreign practitioners of these traditional arts are keen to promote themselves. They are reasonably notable but not a representative of their profession, so that grossly undue weight essay certainly did not belong there. I will try to watch the page as well.Alex Shih (talk)07:21, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Alex. A little investigation revealed that all of this kerfuffle, or most of it, has revolved around a single geisha (or, according to some editors, non-geisha),Fiona Graham, whose talk page archives are too long for me to want to read (unless/until I'm paid by the WMF) but are speckled with the signatures of respected as well as fly-by-night Wikipedians. TheFiona Graham article is very understandably s-protected, so axe-grinders' next destination isGeisha (which also might benefit from s-protection). The expertise of Flowerandwillow's very first edit suggests previous experience under a different name.....Hoary (talk)08:20, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I will block Flowerandwillow if they make another questionable COI edit, as it's certainly not their first account.Alex Shih (talk)19:57, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well said. Incidentally, I've just now taken a look at the recent history of the articleFiona Graham, and I don't like what I see. Take a look at my new comment on its talk page. (And a small point: the article on her refers to her as a geisha, while that onGeisha says she "was" a geisha. The contrast is odd.) --Hoary (talk)22:37, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
TheFiona Graham article: I fear we're not out of the woods yet. Level-headed, disinterested editors are very welcome to keep an eye on it. (Incidentally, I've haughtily said on the talk page that I haven't looked at any of the sources that are properly or improperly referred to. Call me lazy, but I don't propose to read all of them. However, I certainly can and will read those about which there are lucid, credible objections, or about which remarkable claims are made.) --Hoary (talk)06:34, 25 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese museums on theList of music museums

[edit]

Hi there, I have introduced theList of music museums and quite some Japanese articles do have an article in Japanese but not in English. Are there users at this project that like to write some or all of these articles? When you make use of references, I will translate these articles to Dutch language too. :-) Best regards,Ymnes (talk)13:47, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I can translate some of them.@Ymnes:, once they're done should I write on your talk page so you can translate them to Dutch? -Mcampany (talk)21:33, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Here or there, any of them sounds very good to me. Thank you that you are willing to write them!Ymnes (talk)21:51, 13 October 2018 (UTC) (@Mcampany)[reply]
Thanks! I'm watching this page, so I saw your reply. :) I'll let you know on your talk page once I have some done. -Mcampany (talk)21:56, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be happy to do these too!WhisperToMe (talk)05:35, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Great! Hopefully there will be a lot of blue links in the Japan section finally!Ymnes (talk)07:25, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
