How close is "too frequent" for similar FAs to run?

[edit]

I work in music on Wikipedia, especially rock albums. Let's say, hypothetically, I have an FA I want to run on July 24 for its 25th anniversary, but I have another one I'd like to have appear on July 30 because it turns 30. Is this even doable? The first article in the exampleis real, the other one is just an unfinished theory that I could definitely try for, if it's acceptable.mftpdanoops05:38, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@MFTP Dan: Are the music articles from the same band/singer? If so, I would be hesitant to support running so close together. If not, I would be more likely to support running both as these are significant anniversaries. Ultimately, the decision is up to the TFA coordinators, with feedback from the community.Z1720 (talk)12:33, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The other would be from someone entirely different, completely different genre of rock. It isUnplugged (Alice in Chains album), which as it currently stands is a start-class article, but mark my words, this time next month it will be a worthy B.mftpdanoops13:09, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thatfeels a bit close, although it should be remembered that there are few hard and fast rules for TFAs. Personally I try to avoid doubling up on subject matter during a month, so for modern music I may go up to three articles as long as they are different (one biography, one song and one album, for example). This is just a rule of thumb, rather than anything concrete and I may step outside that if circumstances are right. That’s just my approach and the other co-ords may take a different approach, of course. Cheers -SchroCat (talk)12:50, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I would say run one or the other and make a note atWP:TFARP to run the other next year. If Unplugged doesn't make it to FA status in time, run Bleed American. If both are FA, go with the one with the greater anniversary. It doesn'treallymatter that much, as both will run at some point in the near future it's just deciding which order.Harizotoh9 (talk)07:02, 5 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    • Unplugged has a recorded date of April 10, 1996, you could run it April 10 this year, if you're stuck on anniversary dates. There's also no requirement to run on anniversary dates, though I know many like that. I think anniversary dates are way over emphasized. There are usually at least two military TFAs a month. You could run it under a non specific date too. A two month gap in the same topic is plenty, especially considering some topics get more than one a month.MisawaSakura (talk)12:59, 5 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Protection question at a TFA subpage

[edit]

Please see the discussion atWikipedia talk:Today's featured article/October 29, 2025, where I am not entirely sure the answer because I am not familiar with the automatic protections applied to pages like this. Thanks.Primefac (talk)11:51, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It appears the message is misleading. All of the TFA pages are semi-protected viaMediaWiki:Titleblacklist with the messageMediaWiki:titleblacklist-custom-TFA, but that message talks about the cascading protection instead.Anomie17:17, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
