On thisWikiProject Stub sorting subpage, you can propose new stub types (please readthe procedures beforehand!), as well as the reorganization and subdivision of existing stub types. You can also discuss anything else related to stubs on thetalk page.
Important: If you wish to propose the creation of a stubarticle you've come to the wrong place. If you don't have a username yourself, please go toWP:AFC for proposing a new article. If you already have a username, you can create the article yourself. If you don't know how, add{{Helpme}} to your user talk page to request help from other editors.This page only deals with stubtemplates andcategories; we cannot help you with creating articles.
Proposing new stub types
If you wish to propose a new stub category and template, please follow these procedures:
currently marked with another type of stub tag (in which case you should justify why your tag is better for the article than the current one);
a stub whose categorisation is highly ambiguous or questionable;
not marked as a stub.
If you use any category scan (from the tool mentioned above or from any other), please link to it so that other users can confirm that the results are still accurate.
Others may do the same, if they so desire.
5 days after listing it here, if there is general approval or no objection, go ahead and create the new category and/or template following the format onWikipedia:Stub. List the new stub type onthe stub types list in an appropriate section. If consensus is not clear, or discussion is still ongoing, the proposal will remain open until consensus can be reached.
If you wish to propose a stub type which does not currently have 60 articles that could use it, you may propose anupmerged template in a similar way. An upmerged template would feed into currently existing stub categories until such time that there are enough stubs for a separate stub category. At that point a category for it may be separately proposed. Some times, it may be difficult to be sure how many stubs would get a tag - in which case you can also start with an upmerged stub tag until you're sure there are enough.
DO NOT place a proposal here for any stub type which has already been created and is being discussed atWikipedia:Categories for discussion. The proposal page is only for stub types that havenot yet been created, and it is better to keep any discussion of such stub types in one place rather than splitting it between different pages.Wikipedia:Categories for discussion is the correct page for proposals to delete a stub type.
^Good number means about 60 articles or more, or 30 or more if it is the primary stub type of aWikiProject, though this figure may vary from case to case.
A stub type may be proposed for "speedy creation" if it meets one of the following criteria:
S1 - the creation of a category for which an approved upmerged template already exists and is now in use on more than 60 articles.
S2 - the creation of an upmerged national-level template for a subject in which other such national-level templates currently exist (e.g., X-bio-stub, X-hist-stub, or X-geo-stub, where X is the name of an internationally widely recognised country) or other instances where a clearly established pattern of similar subtypes exists. The proposed topic may not be controversial in scope.
List speedy creation proposals in the same proposal listings as normal stub proposals below.
A football biography category which we have already split by position, however a couple of these have gotten a bit sizeable and could do with a further split, following multiple precedents by decade of birth, for example:

The result of the debate wascreate. All of these will be subcategories of their respective "[Country] river stubs" and "[Division] geography stubs" parent categories:
Although I support these, just a warning, I think the Indian counts might be inflated as there are a number of categories that fall onto one or both of these that arent exclusive, for example,Category:Rivers of the Western Ghats falls into both of these categories and a number of others,Category:Tributaries of the Narmada River is in the MAharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Also there may be some undercounts as articles have{{Maharashtra-geo-stub}} or one of its subcats. I suggest the old mantra, templates first, categories of they prove to be over 60, just be careful.Waacstats (talk)21:11, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the debate wascreate. We have split most of the other English MP by century categories by parliament now, only this and the 18th century(7 years) remain. This one is getting large so I propose following the precedent and splitting by parliament. There are a large number of these, nearly enough to have a stub category for the templates, but most categories contain fewer than 60 articles so yes there will be a large overlap but hopefully not too bad. I have proposed all the categories and templates, just incase someone wants to make the missing articles in the mean time.

The result of the debate wascreate. One that keeps creeping up. We have already split out the mayors and diplomats, we have then split out by party and then split one of those parties by where they sit (each state/senate/representative). I can find no party that would pass the 60 mark however I propose we split by state parliment that people sat in, a number of these would already have sub categories as we have split the Labor party politicians. ACT is likely to be too small for a category, the others should easily pass 60

The result of the debate wascreate. Another one in the 700 range that could do with a trim and this one is only 6 months old. I'm fairly sure we will end up with some multi-stubbing as we do when we split the English mps but by Sejm looks the best way to go. Yes the 1989 Sejm is called the Contract Sejm in both the article and category so I have followed suit, a good encyclopedia will give further information if you wish to read up on the reasoning:

The result of the debate wascreate. We have recently been splitting these categories by parliment, thought it best to follow suit but not really happy with how the names came out, anyone any better ideas. Anyhow the templates and categories would be as follows, given large overlap we should be able to create all the categogries but just in case categories iff the templates reach 60:

The result of the debate wascreate. Similar to Asturias below, we could go with LGA's but I feel there are too many of them and none will reach 60 so I propose the LGA regions, unfortunatly we do not have permcats for these so a hand sort will be needed but I always was a glutton for punishment:

The result of the debate wascreate. This one is closing in on 700 articles, We have a choice of by Comarca or by municipality. It doesn't look like any individual municipality will get over 60 so I propose it would be more sensible to split by Comarca. I did think of using upmerged by munucipality templates as this information is more often included in articles but at 79, it felt like doing a US state split again and I'm not ready for that:

It doesnt look like there are enough articles for a category, I was going tosuggust we create the template and use that to upmerge to both categories, but I suppose there is no guarentee that all the articles to do with Cologne S-Bahn are stations (different lines, the trains people involved etc). Maybe for now we just put both templates on any that need them.Waacstats (talk)17:10, 12 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Cologne S-Bahn stubs would only be a subset of North Rhine-Westphalia railway station stubs; I'm fairly certain it doesn't cross into another state. I'll just re-categorize as appropriate.Mackensen(talk)20:05, 12 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the debate wascreate. Over 600 articles, this one will be a bit difficult as I cant find a decent category structure to use as a basis for a petscan search, it seems the regions changes in 2017? so a hand search will be needed at least to complete this. The result of the debate wascreate. These are both a bit odd, I have found 200 articles that belong in a sub-category or sub-sub-category the only problem is one is a "Parent only" and therefore don't have a general stub tag, the other is also "parent only" and its stub tag redirects to its grandparent I propose removing the parent only status from the two categories below and creating the matching template to allow articles from smaller sub-categories of the perm cats a way into these categories and un-redirecting the existing template to the correct category:

The result of the debate wascreate. I'm getting really tired of restubbing all of these French geography articles, so here's hopefully the last of them before I stop making these for good.Meuse (department) geography stubs has over 500 articles, so I'm splitting this up by arrondissement:
Support, There are still plently of departments to split by arrondissement if you want, just none of them look too large at the moment.Waacstats (talk)13:14, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the debate wascreate. Hi all - there are over 500 stubs relating to locations of ore extraction (as opposed to any other type of mine :)) inCategory:Mine stubs. A couple of by-country subcats have already been split out. I'd like to add a few upmerged national templates, and new subcats for any which reach the magical 60 mark. The following would be instantly useful...

The result of the debate wascreate. Another category over the 700 mark, I propose splitting this up by county template with the counties grouped as perCategory:Alabama geography stubs. I have run out of energy for typing them up, so if anyone wants them all typed up, tough, honestly I will have them here before I start but just look at the geo cat for now.Waacstats (talk)16:33, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the debate wascreate. Another one over 700, we don't have a decent split of the geo category, in fact we need to look at getting rid of some undersize county categories at some point. I propose templates for the counties and then see if between the geos and the NRHP we can come up with some regions to use.Waacstats (talk)16:33, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the debate wascreate. Category is at over 600, could do with a trim beforeir gets any bigger, unfortunatly Texas has a lot of counties. I have based this proposal on the existing split of the geo stubs. I believe all the categories will reach 60 but not sure all the templates will be required so whoever creates this (thats probably me) should only ccreate the categories as they are needed.

The result of the debate wascreate. Following a sort of this category that pushed the film subcat over 600, partly because unlike other countries where we have split actors we don't have an Indian screen actor stubs to put those who do film and tv, I therefore propose the following:
