From the editors

Welcome to the thirdBugle for 2024!

In what's becoming an unfortunate trend, no articles were promoted to A-class in February. There are plenty of A-class reviews open, and members of the project are encouraged to contribute to assessing whether they meet the A-class criteria. Happily there were three new featured articles and six new featured pictures, which can be found in this issue'sarticle news.

Thebook review section boasts four entries:Hawkeye7 looks at three subjects from World War II, namely US Navy carrier aircraft maintenance crews, one ofDouglas MacArthur's staff officers, andGeorge S. Patton's first 18 months of war; meanwhile,Nick-D reviews a work with the intriguing and somewhat worrying title ofThe Weaponisation of Everything.

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we report the death ofVami IV. Vami IV was an active member of the Military History project who served as a coordinator from 2022 to 2023. He was a major contributor to the project, writing many fine articles and contributing many reviews. His portfolio included nine featured articles (one promoted posthumously), fiveA-class articles, ten good articles, and twoFour Awards. He summed up his philosophy of editing in essay oncompletionism, in which he wrote:

[W]hat is to be done is to write new content, expand and curate existing content, research, collation of research and references, reviewing and copy editing, cleanup, deorphaning, and collaboration. In a word, work. The only way Completion can and will be reached is through a Herculean amount of work. Completion will also require Completionists to be bold, but civil and patient, and to some extent charismatic. This is a collaborative project! It shall also require Completionists to be discerning and travel to many places to acquire what the Encyclopedia needs. But most of all, it must be repeated, it shall require us to work.

Condolence messages can be left on histalk page. If you can, join us in honouring his memory by improving one of the articles on his unfinishedto-do list.
