TheIndia WikiProject is agroup dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of topics related toIndia and thehistory of the Indian subcontinent. The goals of this group are three-fold:
To achieve the goals, this project group has developed features to help in managing its creative work. It includesDepartments, which coordinate work on certain tasks, such as peer review or project-wide collaboration andWork Groups, and focus on content and articles related to India, such as cities, politics and culture.

Departments are groups of members who perform specific tasks. These tasks include authoring and maintaining project pages, administering portals, adding articles, participating in reviews, managing the project, and more. The following is a list of departments within WikiProject India. WikiProject members may not necessarily work only on departmental tasks; they can also contribute content as members ofWork Groups.
Its purpose is to enable readers to see at a glance how the subject of India is structured, what the component topics are, and how they relate to each other—that is, how information on India is organized both on Wikipedia and more broadly. It acts as a site map and outline of knowledge that clarifies the subject.
Because of its central role in presenting Wikipedia's coverage of India, it is important to develop and maintain this page to the highest level of quality to help readers improve their understanding of India and navigate related topics.

Theassessment department focuses on evaluating the quality of Wikipedia's India-related articles. While much of the work is done in conjunction with theWP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project to recognise excellent contributions and identify topics needing improvement.
Ratings are assigned through parameters in the{{WikiProject India}} project banner, which places articles into categories that form the basis for anautomatically generated worklist.
Thepeer review department conducts peer reviews of India-related articles on request. This process helps improve articles by inviting contributors who may not have previously worked on them to provide feedback. Project members are encouraged to submit articles here instead of using the general peer review process.
Thephotography department aims to provide a collection of high-quality photographs and images for use in India-related articles.
Thecartography department aims to create a collection of high-quality maps for use in India-related articles. The department gathers public domain andfree-license maps and creates new ones where suitable maps are unavailable. Project members may request additional maps for specific articles.
TheRequested articles andRequest department aim to organise, create, and improve requested articles, properly categorise newly created articles, and ensure they are tagged with WikiProject India.
TheKitchen of WikiProject India contains a list of Indian cuisine–relatedpersonal user awards that can be given to other contributors.
Per theManual of Style page on India-related articles, avoid the use of Indic scripts in thelead sections orinfoboxes. Instead, useInternational Phonetic Alphabet pronunciation guides, which are more international. Exceptions are articles on the script itself, articles on a language that uses the script, and articles on texts originally written in a particular script. This does not apply to articles that are not predominantly within the scope of WikiProject India.
