• 9 June2005 – Project created byUser:Johan Elisson (original page), Johan had createdPortal:Association football six days earlier.
• 7 July2005 –IFK Göteborg becomes the project's first featured article.
• 20 September2005 – IFK Göteborg becomes the project's first featured article to appear on Wikipedia'sMain page.
• 3 February2006 – WikiProject Football's second child projectWikiProject Non-league football is created byUser:Cantthinkofagoodname. The first wasWikipedia:WikiProject A-League which pre-dated WP:FOOTBALL, being created byUser:Albinomonkey onDecember 202004 (original page).
• 4 February2006 –User:Kaiser23 becomes the project's 50th member.
• 19 February2006 –Swedish football champions becomes the project's first featured list.
• 28 April2006 – WikiProject A-League creates thePlayer project taskforce (original page).
• 16 May2006 –Agony of Doha becomes the 30th football relatedDid you know? to appear on Wikipedia's main page.
• 21 May2006 –User:Cs-wolves becomes the project's 100th member.
• 9 August2006 –Portal:A-League was created byUser:Daniel (original page).
• 29 August2006 – theassessment department was added to the project. Over 500 articles were supported at this stage.
• 31 August2006 –User:Balerion becomes the project's 150th member.
• 13 September2006 –Sheffield Wednesday F.C. becomes the project's tenth featured article.
• 1 October2006 – the project passes the 1,000 article milestone.
• 12 October2006 –Premier League becomes the project's fifth featured article to appear on the Main page.
• 27 October2006 – WikiProject A-League expands scope to becomeWikiProject Football (soccer) in Australia (original page).
• 12 November2006 –History of Bristol Rovers F.C. is the 40th football related DYK on the main page.
• 31 November2006 – the project passes the 5,000 article milestone.
• 14 December2006 –User:Charruss2491 becomes the project's 200th member.
• 28 January2007 –List of Manchester United F.C. players becomes the project's tenth featured list.
• 13 March2007 –User:Zanoni becomes the project's 250th member.
• 6 April2007 – 7 football related articles were included in theWikipedia:Version 0.5 DVD release.
• 17 April2007 –Francis Lee is the 50th football related DYK on the main page.
• 17 May2007 – 18 football related articles were placed on the2007 Wikipedia Selection for schools
• 30 May2007 –User:Sebisthlm becomes the project's 300th member.
• 5 June2007 –Itzik Zohar is the 60th football related DYK on the main page.
• 13 June2007 –History of Arsenal F.C. (1886–1966) becomes the project's twentieth featured article.
• 17 June2007 –Norwich City F.C. becomes the project's tenth featured article to appear on theMain page.
• 31 June2007 – the project passes the 10,000 article milestone.
• 23 July2007 –Eddy Brown is the 70th football related DYK on the main page.
• 15 September2007 –User:Heitz669 becomes the project's 350th member.
• 24 September2007 –List of York City F.C. managers becomes the project's twentieth featured list at 15:56 UTC, being promoted one minute before the twenty-first featured listIpswich Town F.C. seasons.
• 29 September2007 –Harry Newbould is the 80th football related DYK on the main page.
• 1 October2007 – the project passes the 15,000 article milestone.
• 16 October2007 –List of Gillingham F.C. players (a featured list) becomes the project's 50th article to achieve featured status. There were 27 featured articles and 23 featured lists on this date.
• 12 November2007 –Gillingham F.C. seasons becomes the project's 30th featured list,Denis Law is the first article to be de-featured.
• 14 December2007 –Gary Willard is the 90th football related DYK on the main page.
• 5 January2008 –Image:U20-WorldCup2007-Okotie-Onka edit2.jpg becomes the project's firstFeatured picture.
• 13 January2008 – the project passes the 20,000 article milestone. There were 29 featured articles and 38 featured lists on this date.
• 24 January2008 –Stocksbridge Park Steels F.C. becomes the project's 30th featured article.
• 25 January2008 –Gillingham F.C. becomes the project's firstfeatured topic andLeeds United A.F.C. seasons becomes the project's 40th featured list.
• 31 January2008 –FC Mretebi Tbilisi is the 100th football related DYK on the main page.
• 12 February2008 –User:GarethHolteDavies becomes the project's 400th member.
• 21 February2008 –Game 39 is the 110th football related DYK on the main page.
• 2 March2008 –Ipswich Town F.C. becomes the project's secondfeatured topic.
• 10 March2008 –York City F.C. becomes the project's third featured topic.
• 12 March2008 –Statistics provided byUser:Sjorford suggested that there are 65,838 articles in the 8008 categories in theCategory:Football (soccer) hierarchy on this date, this accounted for 2.89% of the 2,277,708 articles on Wikipedia as a whole. Of these, only 24,396 (37%) were tagged with{{football}} according to the latest WP1.0 statistics.
• 18 March2008 – the project passes the 25,000 article milestone.
• 20 March2008 –Portal:English football becomes the project's firstfeatured portal.
• 14 September 2008 –911 articles were selected for inclusion onWikipedia:Version 0.7 out of a possible 53,311 for the main project with more from subprojects and taskforces (seeWikipedia:0.7/0.7index/Football).
• 11 December2008 – Taskforce on Association Football variants created
