Automated reports

[edit]
  1. COVID-19 article report : Updates daily at 14:00 UTC. This report contains the previous-days pageview totals for all articles with the COVID-19 topic template. It also provides predicted quality scores for each article (at its latest revision when the report was run). Total count of articles that transclude the template, and the cumulative daily pageviews for those articles are also listed.
  2. Top 1000 report: (updates daily at 15:00 UTC) It provides running traffic counts for the most popular Wikipedia articles within the past 7 days. Many of these articles may be related to COVID-19.
  3. Social media traffic report: (updates daily, ataround 15-17:00 UTC) Like the Top 1000 report, many of these articles are related to COVID-19. Given the rise troubling rise inCOVID-related conspiracy theories propagated through social media, this report may be especially helpful for monitoring attempts to disrupt Wikipedia or undermine it by inserting disinformation. Consensus

[edit]

These templates can be used on talk pages to alert editors that consensus has been formed on certain points of interest related to all (or a subset of) COVID-19 articles. The major benefit of such templates is the avoidance of repeated discussions on contentious topics, especially from new or infrequent editors.

{{Current COVID-19 Project Consensus}} (expanded by default, but collapsible with the parameter:|collapsed=yes)

icon

WikiProject COVID-19 aims to add to and buildconsensus for pages relating to COVID-19. They have so far discussed items listed below. Please discuss proposed improvements to them at theproject talk page.

General

  1. Superseded byTfD October 2020 and later practice - consult regular{{Current}} guidance.
  2. Refrain from usingWorldometer (worldometers.info) as a source due to common errors being observed as noted onthe Case Count Task Force common errors page. (April 2020,April 2020)
  3. For infoboxes on the main articles of countries, useWuhan, Hubei, China for the origin parameter. (March 2020)
  4. "Social distancing" is generally preferred over "physical distancing". (April 2020,May 2020)

Page title

  1. COVID-19 (full caps) is preferable in the body of all articles, and in the title of all articles/category pages/etc.(RM April 2020, including the main article itself,RM March 2021).
  2. SARS-CoV-2 (exact capitalisation and punctuation) is the common name of the virus and should be used for the main article's title, as well as in the body of all articles, and in the title of all other articles/category pages/etc. (June 2022, overturningApril 2020)

Map

  1. There is no consensus about whichcolor schemes to use, but they should be consistent within articles as much as possible. There is agreement that there should be six levels of shading, plus gray  for areas with no instances or no data. (May 2020)
  2. There is no consensus about whether the legend, the date, and other elements should appear in themap image itself. (May 2020)
  3. Formap legends, ranges should use fixed round numbers (as opposed to updating dynamically). There is no consensus on what base population to use for per capita maps. (May 2020)

{{Origins of COVID-19 (current consensus)}}

Origins of COVID-19: Current consensus

  1. (RfC, February 2021): There isno consensus as to whether the COVID-19 lab leak hypothesis is a "conspiracy theory" or if it is a "minority, but scientific viewpoint". There is no rough consensus to create a separate section/subsection from the other theories related to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
  2. There is consensus against defining "disease and pandemic origins" (broadly speaking) as a form of biomedical information for the purpose ofWP:MEDRS. However, information that already fits intobiomedical information remains classified as such, even if it relates to disease and pandemic origins (e.g. genome sequences, symptom descriptions, phylogenetic trees). (RfC, May 2021):How a disease spreads, what changes its likelihood to spread and mutation information are, I believe, biomedical (or chemical) information. But who created something or where it was created is historical information. [...]Sources for information of any kind should be reliable, and due weight should be given in all cases. A minority viewpoint or theory should not be presented as an absolute truth, swamp scientific consensus or drown out leading scientific theories.
  3. In multiple prior non-RFC discussions about manuscripts authored by Rossana Segreto and/or Yuri Deigin, editors have found the sources to beunreliable. Specifically, editors were not convinced by the credentials of the authors, and concerns were raised with the editorial oversight of theBioEssays "Problems & Paradigms" series. (Jan 2021,Jan 2021,Jan 2021,Feb 2021,June 2021, ...)
  4. The consensus of scientists is that SARS-CoV-2 is likely of zoonotic origin. (January 2021,May 2021,May 2021,May 2021,June 2021,June 2021)
  5. TheMarch 2021 WHO report on the origins of SARS-CoV-2 should be referred to as the "WHO-convened report" or "WHO-convened study" on first usage in article prose, and may be abbreviated as "WHO report" or "WHO study" thereafter. (RfC, June 2021)
  6. The "manufactured bioweapon" idea should be described as a "conspiracy theory" in wiki-voice. (January 2021,February 2021,May 2021,May 2021,June 2021,June 2021,June 2021,June 2021,July 2021,July 2021,July 2021,August 2021)
  7. (RfC, December 2021):Should the article include the sentenceThey have dismissed the theory based in part on Shi's emailed answers. See this revision for an example.[1] [...]Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow... - it is obvious that there is clear consensus against including this.
  8. (RFC, October 2023):There is a consensus against mentioning that the FBI and the U.S. Department of Energy announced in 2023 that they favor the lab leak theory in the lead of this article.
  9. The articleCOVID-19 lab leak theory may not go through therequested moves process between 4 March 2024 and 3 March 2025. (RM, March 2024)
  10. In the articleCOVID-19 lab leak theory there isno consensus to retain "the lab leak theory and its weaponization by politicians have both leveraged and increased anti-Chinese racism" in the lead. Neither, however, is there a consensus to remove it from the lead. (RFC, December 2024).

{{COVID-19 treatments (current consensus)}}

Treatments for COVID-19: Current consensus

A note onWP:MEDRS: Per thisWikipedia policy, we must rely on the highest quality secondary sources and the recommendations of professional organizations and government bodies when determining the scientific consensus about medical treatments.

  1. Ivermectin:The highest quality sources (1234) suggest Ivermectin isnot an effective treatment for COVID-19. In all likelihood, ivermectin does not reduceall-cause mortality (moderate certainty) or improvequality of life (high certainty) when used to treat COVID-19 in the outpatient setting (4). Recommendations from relevant organizations can be summarized as:Evidence of efficacy for ivermectin is inconclusive. It should not be used outside of clinical trials. (May 2021,June 2021,June 2021,July 2021,July 2021) (WHO,FDA,IDSA,ASHP,CDC,NIH)
  2. Chloroquine &hydroxychloroquine:The highest quality sources (1234) demonstrate that neither is effective for treating COVID-19. These analyses accounted for use both alone and in combination withazithromycin. Some data suggest their usage may worsen outcomes. Recommendations from relevant organizations can be summarized:Neither hydroxychloroquine nor chloroquine should be used, either alone or in combination with azithromycin, in inpatient or outpatient settings. (July 2020,Aug 2020,Sep 2020,May 2021) (WHO,FDA,IDSA,ASHP,NIH)
  3. Ivmmeta.com,c19ivermectin.com,c19hcq.com,hcqmeta.com,trialsitenews.com, etc: These sites arenot reliable. The authors are pseudonymous. The findings have not been subject to peer review. We must rely on expert opinion, which describes these sites as unreliable. From published criticisms (12345), it is clear that these analyses violate basic methodological norms which are known tocause spurious or false conclusions. These analyses include studies which have very small sample sizes, widely different dosages of treatment,open-label designs, different incompatible outcome measures, poor-qualitycontrol groups, and ad-hoc un-published trials which themselves did not undergo peer-review. (Dec 2020,Jan 2021,Feb 2021)
