White House Wire, also known asWH Wire,[1] is anews aggregation website launched by president of U.S.Donald Trump on May 1, 2025, with the purpose to promote news in favour of him. The site took inspiration from theDrudge Report, a politicalnews aggregation website.[2]

Origins

[edit]

President of USDonald Trump launchedWhite House Wire on May 1, 2025. The website's purpose was to be a news aggregation website that promotes news favoring Trump to counter criticism of him in the media. The site's design took inspiration from theDrudge Report, formerlyconservativenews aggregation website, and has similar looking bulletin-boards with columns that link to Pro-Trump news articles.[2][3] Visitors noted that the site has a white background and written in large, bold text, similar to the Drudge report.[4] It was also noted that the site usually republishes articles with all-caps headlines, just like the Drudge Report.[5]White House Wire styled itself as an "alternative outlet" made forTrump supporters who wanted to see pro-Trump administration content and avoid mainstream media outlets that were labeled by Trump as "fake news".[6]White House promoted the website onTwitter on the day of its foundation, writing: “The White House has its own wire now, Read what we’re reading”.[7]

Content and analysis

[edit]

White House Wire is hosted on theWhite House website (wh.gov), it republishespress releases andsocial media posts made by the government. One White House employee interviewed byAxios said the website's news are "transparent" and that it was created to be "a place where supporters of the president's agenda can get real news".[3] The news aggregated by the website featured articles frommainstream media outlets likeAP News andABC News that happen to say something positive about Trump. Other outlets seen on the website wereFox News,Newsweek op-eds,[8] articles fromThe Daily Caller andTwitter posts.[5]

A study of theWhite House Wire in August 2025 revealed that one of the biggest sources used on the website were White House'sYouTube channel, White House's website,Fox News andBreitbart News. It also found that there was a decrease in links to Twitter afterTrump–Musk feud.[9] Analysis of the website byJim Nielsen two months after its creation found that YouTube had most links in the website, followed byFox News,The Post Millennial, andFox Business. All YouTube links were reported to lead to content made by the Trump administration.[10]

Reactions

[edit]

On the day of the site's foundation, founder of the Drudge Report,Matt Drudge, jokingly said he is considering $1 trillion lawsuit against the website.[8][7] The Drudge Report published stories that mocked the website, with one saying: "IT TAKES AN ENTIRE WEST WING TO COMPETE WITH DRUDGE".[11] Son of president Trump,Donald Trump Jr. praised the website and stated in a Twitter post: "Give a middle finger to the fake news and check out WH Wire!!!!".[12] It was noted byThe Verge on July 3, 2025, that the creation of the website happened during a time when theTrump Administration began to act hostile to mainstream media outlets who criticized Trump.[10]

The Atlantic called the website "propagandistic" and said it is the example of Trump administration's efforts against mainstream media.[13]Reporters Without Borders called the site a "taxpayer-funded propaganda site".[14] Some users ofsocial media compared the site tostate media orstate propaganda.[15]TechNews criticized the website, saying it is a sign that the US government is becoming hostile toindependent journalism.[16]
