TheWestside is a district of the city centre ofBirmingham,England, which includes many new and planned buildings such asThe Cube,Library of Birmingham,Ikon Gallery,Trident House andRegal Tower.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
A 2.15km long metro expansion, holding the distinction of being the country's only metro system to completely operate on battery, was rolled out in two phases, in December 2019 and 2021.[7] On 16 April 2021 the last piece of track was welded into place on Hagley Road, and passenger services to a new terminus atEdgbaston Village commenced later that year.[8][9]

Within the Westside isBrindleyplace, consisting of theNational Sealife Centre and Number 9 The Gallery; adjacent are theInternational Convention Centre (ICC) andSymphony Hall. Other performance venues in the area are theNational Indoor Arena (NIA) and theBirmingham Repertory Theatre ("The Rep").[10][11]Broad Street is a popular nightlife destination in Birmingham and home to many European restaurants, canal-side bars and night clubs.[12] The canal network in the area consists of features such asOld Turn Junction andGas Street Basin.

The Mailbox is an upmarket shopping centre and hotel adjacent to the canals and provides offices for theBBC.[13] Other media companies having offices in the Convention Quarter includeBRMB,Galaxy,Heart FM andITV Central.
