TheWestern India cricket team was active infirst-class cricket from November 1933 until February 1946, operating in the West Zone of theRanji Trophy for twelve seasons. It was based inRajkot,Gujarat, then part ofSaurashtra State.[1]
Western India, captained by the EnglishmanHerbert Barritt, won the Ranji Trophy in1943-44.[2]
Western India was succeeded as a first-class team byKathiawar in 1946, which was in turn succeeded bySaurashtra in 1950. Saurashtra has competed in the Ranji Trophy ever since, winning in2019–20 and2022–23.
