American legislative district
West Virginia's 1st Senate district is one of 17 districts in theWest Virginia Senate. It is currently represented byRepublicansRyan Weld andLaura Chapman.[2][3] All districts in the West Virginia Senate elect two members to staggered four-year terms.
District 1 is based in theNorthern Panhandle, covering all ofBrooke,Hancock, andOhio Counties and parts ofMarshall County. It includes the communities ofWheeling,Chester,New Cumberland,Weirton,Follansbee,Wellsburg,West Liberty, andBethlehem.[4]
The district is located entirely withinWest Virginia's 2nd congressional district, and overlaps with all or part of the 1st through 7th districts of theWest Virginia House of Delegates.[5] It borders the states ofOhio andPennsylvania.
