TheWest Indies Academy, formerly known asWest Indies Emerging Team is a cricket team, that playsfirst-class andList A cricket in theWest Indian domestic circuit. The team has no geographical base, rather is made up of the emerging players and top youth performers in theCaribbean.[1] They are currently captained byNyeem Young,[2] and coached byAndre Coley.[3]
The team was formed in October 2019 to compete in theSuper50 Cup for the first time.[4] The first recorded match by the team was played on 7 November 2019, againstGuyana in the2019–20 Regional Super50.[5] In December 2022, theCricket West Indies (CWI) announced that the West Indies Academy would be one of the three teams to take part in the inaugural2023 Headley Weekes Tri-Series.[6] The team made their first-class debut on 19 April 2023,[7] which they won by seven wickets against Team Headley.[8] West Indies Academy scheduled totour Ireland for the first time in June 2024 to play threeList A and twoFirst-class games against Emerging Ireland.[9]
