TheWenxian Tongkao (Chinese:文献通考;pinyin:Wénxiàn Tōngkǎo;Wade–Giles:Wenhsien T'ungk'ao;lit. 'Comprehensive Examination of Literature') or shortened asTongkao, was one of the major encyclopedia works modelled after theTongdian. It was compiled byMa Duanlin in 1317 during theYuan dynasty.
The Tang dynastyTongdian by Du You, the Song dynastyTongzhi by Zheng Qiao, and the Yuan dynastyWenxian Tongkao by Ma Duanlin, were collectively referred to as theThree Tongs (三通,Santong), throughout the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.
