TheWellington Times is anewspaper published inWellington,New South Wales, Australia since 1889. TheWellington Times has also been published asThe Wellington Times and Australian Industrial Liberator.
The Wellington Times and Australian Industrial Liberator was first published on 23 May 1889 by Michael Conlan O'Halloran to support thelabour movement.[1] In 1899 the name was shortened to theWellington Times.[2] In 1927 theWellington Times absorbedThe Wellington Gazette.[3]
In 1972 theWellington Star was established as a competitor to theTimes byColin Lord. However theStar was incorporated into theTimes in 1973 when the latter was purchased by Lord.[4] TheTimes was purchased byMacquarie Publications in 1984 from Lord and is today published byFairfax Regional Media.[5][6]
The paper has been digitised as part of theAustralian Newspapers Digitisation Program project of theNational Library of Australia.[7][8]
