"We Close Our Eyes" is a song by the Englishpop duoGo West, composed by both membersPeter Cox andRichard Drummie. Recognisable by its synthesiserhook, it was released as thelead single from the duo'sself titled debut studio album, in February 1985. The song charted worldwide, reaching number five on theUK Singles Chart, number 41 on the USBillboard Hot 100, and the top 10 in Australia, Italy, and New Zealand.
In April 1985, the single was discussed byMolly Meldrum andQueen's lead vocalistFreddie Mercury on the Australian music showCountdown. Mercury was impressed and predicted the band would be "very, very big".[citation needed]
"We Close Our Eyes" spent 14 weeks on theUK Singles Chart, peaking at number five in April 1985.[3] In the United States, the single reached 41 on theBillboard Hot 100 and number five on theHot Dance Music/Club Play chart.[4]
"We Close Our Eyes" was promoted by amusic video directed byGodley & Creme.[5] This video included Cox and Drummie performing the song in front of dancing wooden artistmannequins.
The "Total Overhang Club Mix" was later included on Go West's 1986 remix compilationBangs & Crashes.[6] A further remix of the song appeared onAces and Kings – The Best of Go West in 1993.[7]
