Wayne Hampson (born 23 August 1957) is a former professionaltennis player from Australia.[1]
Hampson competed in the main singles draw of theAustralian Open three times andWimbledon twice, without managing to register a win.[2] The closest he got was at the1982 Australian Open, where he received a first round bye, before a five set loss in the second round toEric Sherbeck, the last decided in a tiebreak.[2] He had more success in the doubles, making the third round at the1982 Australian Open (withBroderick Dyke) and the1983 Wimbledon Championships (withChris Johnstone).[2]
He was a doubles finalist at the 1982Melbourne Indoor tournament, the1982 South Australian Open and the1984 Lorraine Open, but lost them all.[2] On the singles circuit, Hampson had his best performance in 1980, making a quarter-final appearance in Perth.[2] He had a win overKim Warwick at theSydney Outdoor in 1981 and beatJohn Alexander en route to the round of 16 atQueen's in 1982.[2]
