Wayãpi is spelt phonetically based on theInternational Phonetic Alphabet, and not according theFrench orthography.[5] The spelling uses the letterɨ for theclose central unrounded vowel between i and u.[6]E is always pronouncedé, vowels with a tilde are always nasal (ã,ẽ,ĩ,õ,ũ),ö is like the GermanO umlaut, andb is pronouncedmb. All letters are pronounced.[6]
