
Watson Peninsula is a narrowpeninsula 4 km (2.5 mi) long separatingMacdougal andMarr Bays on the north coast ofLaurie Island, in theSouth Orkney Islands ofAntarctica. It was charted in 1903 by theScottish National Antarctic Expedition under Bruce, who named it forG.L. Watson, yacht designer and redesigner of the expedition shipScotia.
The peninsula has been identified anImportant Bird Area (IBA) byBirdLife International because it supports a largebreeding colony of about 13,000 pairs ofchinstrap penguins. Other birds nesting at the site includeAdélie andgentoo penguins as well assouthern giant petrels.[1]
