Warnockia is a genus from the familyLamiaceae, first described in 1996. It contains only one known species,Warnockia scutellarioides, theprairie brazosmint, native to the south-centralUnited States (Texas andOklahoma) and northernMexico (Coahuila).[1][2]

Etymology

The genus name honorsBarton Warnock, a 20th-century Texan botanist.

Thespecific epithetscutellarioides (suffixed with-oides) means "Scutellaria-like", referring to a resemblance to another genus in the Lamiaceae.[3]

It was also called theprairie brazoria, as it was formerly placed in the genusBrazoria.[3]
