TheWanačas-Hiłḥuuʔis Conservancy[1] is aconservancy inBritish Columbia,Canada.Established on June 18, 2024, the conservancy covers 5,366 hectares of land.[2][3]It covers parts of theMeares Island. It borders theƛułp̓ic Conservancy to its north.[4]
Its nameWanačas-Hiłḥuuʔis is composed of twoNuu-cha-nulth Tla-o-qui-aht place names:Wanačas forLone Cone which means "flukes of a diving whale", andHiłḥuuʔis for bothMount Colnett and the shore on Lemmens Inlet on its western slopes which means "as far as you can go" or "something below mountain".[5][6]
