Walter W. Hackett (c. 1923 – April 24, 1971) was anAmerican football coach. He served as thedefensive line coach for theSan Diego Chargers of theAmerican Football League (AFL) from 1962 to 1966 and thePittsburgh Steelers of theNational Football League (NFL) from 1969 to 1970.[1] Hackett was the head football coach at theUniversity of California, San Diego during that school's lone season with a football program, in 1968.[2]

Hackett attendedRamona High School inRamona, San Diego County, California, where he playedhigh school football. He played four years ofcollege football atWhittier College inWhittier, California under head coachWallace Newman.[3] Hackett died at the age of 47, on April 24, 1971, inLong Beach, California, after collapsing as he prepared to scout theLong Beach State football team.[4]
