Waldir Peres de Arruda (January 2, 1951 – July 23, 2017), known asWaldir Peres, was a Brazilianfootballer who played as agoalkeeper, in particular withSão Paulo and theBrazil national team.
At club level, Peres was mainly known for his time with São Paulo.
At international level, Peres had his first match it was the second semi final match during the1975 Copa América on 4 October 1975 against Peru, Brazil won the match with a score of 0-2. Peres capped in total 30 times for Brazil between October 1975 and July 1982; he was a member of theBrazil national team at theWorld Cup 1974,1978 and1982. He played five games at the 1982 World Cup.
In 2006, Peres was appointed as theVitória-ES U-18 team manager during theCopa São Paulo de Juniores.
Peres died in 2017 of a heart attack; he was 66.
Peres's daughterErika Peres was also a footballer.[1]
