James Waddell Smith (August 24, 1953 – July 26, 2024) was an American-born football player for theEdmonton Eskimos of theCanadian Football League (CFL) where he played for seven seasons from 1977 to 1983. He was an All-Star in 1979 and was a part of fiveGrey Cup championship teams for the Eskimos. He finished his career in theNFL playing two games for theDallas Cowboys in 1984.
Smith was anAll-American sprinter for theKansas Jayhawks track and field team, finishing runner-up in the600 yards at the1975 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.[1]
Smith died on July 26, 2024, at the age of 70.[2]
