WWE Velocity is an Americanprofessional wrestlingtelevision program that was produced byWorld Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and ran weekly from May 25, 2002 to June 11, 2006. It aired domestically Saturday nights onTNN/Spike TV until becoming awebcast beginning in 2005.Velocity served as a supplementary show to theSmackDown! brand, focusing more exclusively on its mid-card performers and matches, and was recorded before the week's television taping ofSmackDown!.
WWE Velocity replaced twosyndicated WWE shows,Jakked andMetal.[citation needed]WWE Velocity was primarily used to summarize major occurrences on the latest episode ofSmackDown!, which aired Thursday and later Friday nights onUPN. Due to theWWE Brand Extension,Velocity aired matches and content from theSmackDown brand.[1] The format was set to mirror that ofWWE Heat and its relation to theRaw brand.[1]
Velocity aired as a weekly Saturday night show onTNN (renamed to Spike TV in 2003) between 10-11pm EST.[2] The show also broadcast internationally. In the United Kingdom it aired onSky Sports 2 on Sunday mornings.
FollowingRaw's move from Spike TV back to theUSA Network in 2005,Velocity and its Raw brand counterpart,Heat, were discontinued from television broadcast in theUnited States andCanada and becamewebcasts streamed on WWE.com.[3] The newest episode would be uploaded to WWE.com on Saturdays and be available for the next week. Older webcast episodes were also archived.[citation needed] Internationally,Velocity andHeat continued to be broadcast on their respective television networks due to WWE's international programming commitments.
With the relaunch ofECW,Velocity was cancelled. The last episode ofVelocity aired internationally on June 11, 2006. It was also the last episode to be streamed on WWE.com.
8 episodes ofVelocity are now available onPeacock in the United States and theWWE Network in international markets.[original research?]
