WWCD (1070AM "The Zone") is acommercialradio station broadcasting asportsradio format.Licensed toSolana, Florida, the station servesCharlotte County inSouthwest Florida, but can be heard as far north asSarasota and as far south asMarco Island. The station is owned byiHeartMedia, Inc.

By day, WWCD is powered at 1,800watts. But to avoid interfering with other stations at night, it reduces power to 233 watts.

WWCD mostly carries programming fromFox Sports Radio. In middays, it airsThe Dan Patrick Show andThe Herd with Colin Cowherd. During theNHL season, it carriesTampa Bay Lightning games.

History

The stationsigned on the air on November 19, 1986; 39 years ago (1986-11-19)[2] Itscall sign was WKII and it was owned by Kneller Broadcasting of Charlotte County.

Under the leadership of Kneller Broadcasting, WKII was afull service radio station with major community involvement. It aired amiddle of the road (MOR) format with local news and sports. Former air personalities include Jack Mihall, Charlie Shoe and Larry Timko.

In 1997, WKII and its co-owned FM station, 100.1 WCKT (nowWZJZ) were acquired bySan Antonio-basedClear Channel Communications (now known as iHeartMedia). WKII had anadult standards format.[3]
