WPCV (97.5MHz) is acommercialFM radio station,licensed toWinter Haven and servingCentral Florida. It has acountry musicradio format and is owned and operated byHall Communications. The studios and offices are inLakeland.

While the station predominantly coversPolk County, WPCV‘s signal also blankets theGreater Orlando area (where it competes withWWKA) and can be heard clearly in the eastern part of theTampa Bay area and south toSebring. with itstransmitter on Cypress Parkway inHaines City.[2] It has aneffective radiated power (ERP) of 100,000 watts, the maximum for non-grandfathered FM stations. Thetower has aheight above average terrain (HAAT) of 310 meters (1,020 ft), making WPCV one of few radio stations in Central Florida to reach both Atlantic and Gulf coasts.

History

On February 7, 1963, the stationsigned on the air as WINT-FM, the FM sister station ofWINT (1360 AM). In 1967, the station became WXKL, with abeautiful music format. It played quarter hour sweeps of mostly instrumentalcover versions of popular songs, with someHollywood andBroadway show tunes. In 1972, the call letters switched to WHFL.

In 1975, the station flipped tocountry music. To go along with the new format, it switched to its current call sign, WPCV, which stands for "Polk County's Voice".
