WCUB (980kHz) is acommercialAMradio stationlicensed toTwo Rivers, Wisconsin. The station is owned by Mark Seehafer, through licensee Seehafer Broadcasting Corporation, with studios at Mangin Street in Manitowoc. It airs aclassic countryradio format.
WCUB is aClass B station, transmitting with 5,000watts. To protect other stations on980 AM from interference, it uses adirectional antenna with a four-tower array. Thetransmitter is off Viebahn Street at South 42nd Street, nearInterstate 43 inManitowoc.[2] The signal covers Two Rivers, Manitowoc andSheboygan along with city-grade coverage ofBrown County andGreen Bay. Programming is also heard on 250-wattFM translatorW246DY at 97.1MHz in Two Rivers.[3]
WCUB playscountry music hits from the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Most hours begin with an update fromFox News Radio.
WCUB is also the home ofNASCAR radio coverage from all threeNASCAR radio networks, along with theIndianapolis 500'sradio network (including theBrickyard 400).
The stationsigned on the air in 1951; 74 years ago (1951).[4] Its originalcall sign was WTRW. It was a 500-wattdaytimer, required to go off the air at night. The studios were 1917 Washington Street and the station was owned by Two Rivers Broadcasting.
On November 19, 1965, it added asister station,WQTC-FM at 102.3 MHz.[5] In the 1960s and 70s, the two stationssimulcast a popularTop 40 format. Today, the FM station is aclassic rock outlet.
In early May 2020, WCUB startedsimulcasting onFM translator W246DY at 97.1 MHz, as a part of theFCC's AM revitalization plan.
