During the 12th and 13th centuries A.D. during the rule of theVijayanagar Empire inSouth India, theHaridasa movement spread from the area of modernKarnataka. TheLingayatism movement, the term is derived from Lingavantha inKannada, spread the philosophy ofBasavanna, a Hindu reformer.The Vyasakuta were required to be proficient in theVedas,Upanishads and otherDarshanas.[1]
