Vyasa Peetha (Sanskrit:व्यास पीठ ), 'the seat ofVyasa', is the site atNaimisharanya Teerth inSitapur district ofUttar Pradesh, India, where theVedic sage Vyasa is said to have composed theMahabaratha.[1][2] Anashram calledVyas Gaddi is located at the site.[1]
Vyasa is traditionally regarded as the compiler ofVedas and the composer of theMahabaratha.[3][4] Peetha means seat, altar or holy place where a deity resides ('sits'); it also refers to a temple or ashram where knowledge is acquired.Vyasa Gaddi refers to the ‘seat of Vyasa’.[1]
The termVyasa Peetha is also used to denote the seat where priests sits to recite the Veda's and other texts.[5][6]
