Vritramimosaurus is an extinctgenus of large earlyarchosauromorph. Although originally placed in thefamilyProlacertidae,[1] recent studies on archosauromorph relationships doubt the validity of the family, at least in its broadest sense. Fossils have been found fromEarly Triassic deposits of the Rassypnaya locality inOrenburg Oblast,Russia. Rassypnaya is located on theObshchy Syrt, a plateau in the European part of Russia that extends southwest of theUrals toward theVolga River.Vritramimosaurus is similar to the later genusMalutinisuchus, also from Rassypnaya but present inMiddle Triassic deposits.[2]
