Anatomical terminology |
Thevitreous membrane (orhyaloid membrane orvitreous cortex) is a layer ofcollagen separating thevitreous humour from the rest of theeye. At least two parts have been identified anatomically. Theposterior hyaloid membrane separates the rear of the vitreous from theretina. It is a false anatomical membrane.[1] Theanterior hyaloid membrane separates the front of the vitreous from thelens.[2] Bernal et al. describe it "as a delicate structure in the form of a thin layer that runs from thepars plana to the posterior lens, where it shares its attachment with theposterior zonule viaWeigert's ligament, also known asEgger's line".
