TheVisakhapatnam Urban Development Authority or VUDA was theurban planning agency ofVisakhapatnam, in the Indian state ofAndhra Pradesh. It was formed in 1978, vide an act of theState Assembly of Andhra Pradesh. Its jurisdiction was expanded in 2018 by merging it with the surrounding mandals to formVisakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority.[1]
Under the jurisdiction of VUDA, theVisakhapatnam Metropolitan Region (VMR), comprises,Visakhapatnam and the districts ofSrikakulam,Visakhapatnam,Anakapalli andVizianagaram. It is spread over an area of 5,573 km2 (2,152 sq mi) and has a population of53.4lakhs.[2]Anakapalle andBheemunipatnam were merged inGreater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).[3]
It was dissolved to form a new authority in the name ofVMRDA[4]
