Virtus Francavilla Calcio, commonly known asVirtus Francavilla, is anItalian football club based inFrancavilla Fontana,Apulia. They currently play inSerie D, the fourth tier of Italian football.
The historic Francavilla Calcio was founded in 1946 with the name ofA.S. Francavilla, and it has always playedregional leagues. In 2006 it was renamedA.S.D. Francavilla Calcio[1] In theseason 2010–11, was relegated fromSerie D group H to theEccellenza Apulia.
The new club was founded in 2007 under the name ofSalento Francavilla. It has assumed its present name after the merger at the end of the 2013–14 season with the historicFrancavilla Calcio.[2] In that year it won theEccellenza Apulia championship coming back inSerie D.
In the season 2014–15 the team was promoted for the first time, fromEccellenza Apulia toSerie D. At the end of the2015–16 Serie D, the team was promoted in the2016–17 Lega Pro. For the first time in its history, the team reached a professional league, thethird highest football division ofItaly.[3]
The club's main colours of their badge and kit are blue and white.
