TheVirginia Department of Historic Resources is theState Historic Preservation Office for the Commonwealth ofVirginia.[1] The agency maintains theVirginia Landmarks Register (the first step for properties and districts in Virginia seeking listing on theNational Register of Historic Places). It also holds historic propertyeasements,[2] administers the state's historictax credit program and approves official highway historical markers for the state. Its headquarters are leased from and shared with theVirginia Historical Society.[3]
