TheViminal Hill (/ˈvɪmɪnəl/VIM-in-əl;Latin:Collis Vīminālis[ˈkɔllɪswiːmɪˈnaːlɪs];Italian:Viminale[vimiˈnaːle]) is the smallest of the famousSeven Hills of Rome. A finger-shape cusp pointing toward central Rome between theQuirinal Hill to the northwest and theEsquiline Hill to the southeast, it is home to theTeatro dell'Opera and theTermini Railway Station.

At the top of the Viminal Hill is thePalace of Viminale that hosts the headquarters of theMinistry of the Interior; currently the termIl Viminale means the Ministry of the Interior.

According toLivy, the hill first became part of the city of Rome, along with theQuirinal Hill, during the reign ofServius Tullius, Rome's sixth king, in the 6th century BC.[1] The name of the hill derives from Latinviminalis (“pertaining toosiers”), fromvimen (“a plianttwig, osier”).[2][3]
